Enkare Nyrobi is the Maasai phrase for ‘cold water’.  The city, Nairobi, borrows its name from the Nairobi river.  It is also knows as the ‘city in the sun‘.

Nairobi city holds the highest population in East Africa, at about 3 million inhabitants.  It is the 14th largest city in Africa.  The city is diverse in its landscape, its culture, its people, its business and its potential.

Kenyan photographer Mutua Matheka has taken Nairobi and made it ground for inspiration. Together with his partner David Muthami and UN Habitat, Matheka is using his urban photography to present Nairobi in its beauty.  Matheka is working with the UN Habitat campaign, I’m a City Changer.  Matheka hopes to encourage Africans to appreciate their African cities, as he appreciates the city of Nairobi.

We present Nairobi through the lens of photographer Mutua Matheka.  You can follow Matheka’s twitter page to see more of his photography.
