Sometimes, If you can’t go to the jungle for that safari, you have to bring the jungle home. If you are tired of boring colors in your house, or common themes, going the safari way can make a heaven out of your living room, filling it with boldness in color and texture, decorating into absolute uniqueness and elegance. Here are some tips on how you can Africanize your house.

1.         Many aspects of the African terrain are reflected by earthy tones like rich browns, rust, black, deep orange, gold and green. To go with these secondary colors, choose a primary color that will go with the earthy colors that you have used. If you aren’t mixing all the colors, you can alternate them in different rooms to kill the monotony and create some unity.

Earth tones and dark, rich woods paired with white complete the Safari look.

2.       Other than the color, if you love animals, try painting the walls with life-size animals, birds and trees. Animals are the backbone of an African safari. Of course you would be going too far placing a real animal in the house, but animal prints on accessories like rugs would be a good to go. Go for fabrics with tiger prints, leopard prints or zebra prints.

3.       On the ceiling, you can hang plastic vines or stick small leaves on curtain rods.

4.       For accessories and items in your house, use tribal themes and be very creative in it. A bamboo theme is a good way to go. There are places where you can buy a river boat shaped bed, or one that’s safari jeep styled. For the kids, a tree house style bed is also very possible, especially if you can find someone who can make you a good one. You can further accessorize the house by placing toys of animals on strategic places in the house. Accessories the house further with tribal drums and woven baskets.

5.       Avoid glass or plastic in the house if you are going fully safari and opt for wood. And when selecting the wood, go for dark, opulent woods with a smooth, shiny finish.

6.       The house is not the only place that you want reflecting this theme. You can extend it to the garden and have everything in your home syncing with safari, make a real jungle in that small garden by planting mostly palms and ferns, exotic varieties of flowering plants, climbers, or vines. In addition to this, polish the safari touch with some manmade caves, animal figurines and if you can, place a bird house somewhere. A waterfall fountain, and a duck statue maybe, and then you are ready to live on safari in your own house.
