Westlands is the party capital of Nairobi, indeed of Kenya. We start off at Gypsy’s, get a few shots, attempt to dance. We attempt because it’s next to impossible. How does one dance at Gypsy’s? How does one even move? Gypsy’s is choking with sweltering crowds. Even the walls are crawling, moving, going somewhere you don’t even understand. One has to hold themselves against the counter to stop from fainting. We have to get out of here. Gypsy’s is impossible. Perhaps that’s the gyst of it. aren’t gypsies always moving, going somewhere, just like the crowds in this club?

We go to Iguana next. It’s much nicer than Gypsy’s. at least no one is stepping on your toes. There are no prostitutes trying to rape you on the dance floor.

Iguana plays Indian music. Our Indian friends enjoy it; together we have such good fun. They serve us hot masala chips, and we wash it down with more shots.

We try Red Tape and Rezorous; they are too chilled and we are too drunk. We want some hardcore dancing. We go to Vineyard, but the revellers are mostly expatriates. This means that the music is just electronic.

We go to Skylux. Skylux is class; none of the tacky sweaty crawling nitsy-gritsy of Gypsy’s. The interiors are clean cut, white.

A friend climbs the table, dances around the pole. People cheer, hand her another drink. The music is great. It’s not just electronic or techno or Indian. It plays everything. Word, you’re home!
