I read Kuki Gallmann’s “I Dreamed of Africa” some years back. Though I was reading the book in Africa and having been born and raised in Kenya, the kind of descriptions I got from the book talked of the Africa that was pristine, enchanting, ‘earthy’ and simply adorable. And I fell in love with the Laikipia ranches that Kuki talked about. It is also the kind of Africa described by Karen Blixen.
And you might also think about a place in Laikipia, too, where at night you stay in a tent with nothing separating you from the African wild than a mosquito net. A place lying quietly in the shade of a great fig tree, nestled on a bank of the gentle Ewaso Nyiro. From the open deck of your tent, you then see elephants stroll, watch monkeys play, and look on as the gentle rhythm of this hidden Africa playing out before you.
Dreamy? Not at all! That is Lemartis Camp in Laikipia, Kenya.
It consists of five luxury tents, accommodating up to 10 adults and 18 children. The tents have earthy hues, the furniture are handcrafted and have soft textiles.
