Once upon a dream…In the ancient land of Deighton Downs, at a time of great hardship, adventure, and loneliness, a young African found himself at the foothills of the Aberdare Ranges overlooking the Laikipia plains. As he grew up there, enveloped in a harsh wilderness, unto him came an immortal dream. That dream now stands as…The Tafaria Castle & Country Lodge. EST 2012 AD.
Those are not my words. They are the words which introduce the Tafaria Castle & Country Lodge in the Aberdare Ranges of Kenya.
Tafaria is located 143 miles north of Nairobi. It is 40 Miles from Nyeri traveling westwards towards Nyahururu, or 24 Miles from Nyahururu traveling eastwards towards Nyeri.
To stay in the rooms of the Lodge is like to take a trip back in time to the Elizabethan times and to be in different era at the present moment. Take for instance one of the rooms known as Vikings. It reminds one of the Norse warriors in Europe back in the 8th to 11th Century. Or even the Lord’s Room which was reserved for spectators and overlooked an Elizabethan theatre. The historical buffs can have a field day here. Another room is named ‘Knights’ and for a moment one would be in her Majesty’s monarchy.
