Here at Chicamod, sometime in December last year, we ran a story about the Ugandan rapper, Jocelyn Tracy Keko, after she had won the award for Most Gifted East African Video in last year’s Channel O Music Video Awards.
You could revisit the story we did on her here.
This year, barely a week ago, vintage Keko has signed a deal with Sony Music Africa in a deal which has been hinted to be very lucrative.
This came about after weeks of closed-door negotiations and information was not forthcoming from Keko’s management.
Right now, she is one of the judges in Uganda in the Nokia’s promotion dubbed ‘Beat the Beat’ alongside other judges such as Nazizi, Evumbi, Eric Musyoka, Joey Muthengi, Frasha, DJ Joe, McKats, and many others.
Last month, the same record label signed Xtatic (born Gloria Edna Mecheo), another brilliant and talented artiste.
So, we read that actually in her native language, Keko means “early in the morning”. Looks like, finally, the meaning of her name is rising on her musical fortunes, quite literally. It is your sunrise, Keko!
