From May 11th to August 3rd Nairobi held the Nai Ni Who? (Nairobi is Who?) Festival.
It is in this spirit that Atemi Oyungu’s latest video Nairobi Yangu (My Nairobi) is based on. The beautiful song epitomizes the capital city of Kenya. This year Kenya is celebrating 50 years of independence and the country has certainly come a long way from the days of colonialism. This song showcases various monuments like The Uhuru Park, Uhuru Gardens, The Dedan Kimathi statue on Kimathi Street, KICC (Kenyatta International Conference Centre) among others. Atemi’s soulful voice carries out the message of the song well through her lyrics that bring to the fore the city in the sun’s real beauty. The warm hues that are used in the video are both vibrant and colorful; they bring out the spirit of celebration which Atemi is trying to communicate to her audience. There simply wouldn’t be any other befitting singer for this song! The Afro fusion song is produced by Taurus Musik.
The Nai ni Who? Initiative was a project by The GoDown Arts Centre that sought to bring out the spirit of Nairobi in the wake of the 50th anniversary of Kenya. Various artistes transcended through Nairobi estates interacting and entertaining residents while reminding them about the beautiful city that they live in.
