This weekend, the Seychelles will be hosting their annual Regatta Festival, an event surrounding the theme of the sea and its relevant sporting events.
Regatta, a series of boating events, has been a festivity favoured by many on the main island of Mahe, Seychelles for decades now. It was originally launched and continues to be organized by the Seychelles Round Table Club. It is an event that includes sports, beauty pageants, and offers the opportunity for many private companies to sponsor and advertise their merchandise.
An occasion for unity and celebration, the Regatta Festival is hosted on the popular and picturesque beach of Beau Vallon every evening this weekend from Friday to Sunday.
It can be compared to a second Independence Day. Families, newly weds, and tourists from across the globe flock to this festivity that has something to offer for both the young and old. Local food is sold all across the sidelines of the beach, music fills the air, and there is a strong sense of community each year at this event.
The Seychellois (local people from the Seychelles) are known to embrace festivities, love sharing their culture with others, and enjoy having a good time. This events acts as yet another culture exchange with the many tourists now on residence at the different hotels across the main island.
Seychelles is an archipelago with 45 base islands, the main and most populated ones being Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue.
