Doreen Mashika born and raised in Zanzibar studied and pursued a career in financial management in Switzerland. Inspired by her home roots Zanzibar, Doreen tapped into her creative side giving ‘birth’ to the Doreen Mashika Label.
And now, a trend setter, Doreen Mashika offers inspiration to up and coming fashion lines seeking to make it in the fashion world. The label produces a wide range of products: purses, necklaces, scarves and a wide range of outfits. All products being made by the locals in Zanzibar.
Beyond doubt, the line reflects the beauty and culture of her home town Zanzibar: It features African fabrics, textures with a contemporary flare.
Accolades Doreen Mashika has won have included: Origin Africa Designer Showcase at the Hub of Africa fashion week in Addis Ababa this award was also won by Ethiopia’s Mafi. She also won the US Retail Award plus the Ethical Fashion Award. The event, an opportunity to expose African designers and aspiring designers was attended by some of the biggest fashion icons in the world like Redcats, Calvin Klein, JC Penney and many others.
EDUN the label owned by Rock star, Bono and his wife for the 2012 holiday season collaborated with Doreen Mashika. The holiday collection features amazing merchandise like:vikoi, leather thong sandals, gold plated bracelets, horn necklaces and cuff bracelets. All these hand crafted by the men and women of Zanzibar. Proving again, Doreen Mashika’s hard work is paying off .
Doreen Mashika product at the moment are stocked in Japan, Berlin, New York, South Africa and Switzerland.
