Tourists to Tanzania will now have the option of purchasing a phone call package catering especially to them.  The recently launched service by Airtel Tanzania will reduce roaming charges for visitors to the country.

The Airtel Tanzania Tourist pack offers its users a package cost as low as $10 (Tshs 16,000) for 30 minute calls to international destinations, 10 minute calls locally, 10 messages locally and worldwide, and a data package of 1 GB for 30 days.  During the launch ceremony, Airtel managing director Sunil Colaso explained the package services.  “The pack will be available with a sim card and a special voucher with a bundle containing talk time in minutes, for international and local calls, SMS and data bundle.”  The managing director also made assurances that the tourist pack will provide reliable, quality services to tourists.  Gaudence Temum, the Tourism Confederation of Tanzania chairman, lauded Airtel Tanzania’s efforts in communication services.

There are plans to make Airtel’s tourist pack available to those outside of Tanzania.  For now, the pack is available at Tanzanian points of entry including Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Zanzibar, Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), top tourist hotels and restaurants.
