This could be your view at the end of May. This is Lake Turkana, also known as the Jade Sea, and is one of Kenya’s gems in the North of the country. The lake’s shores will be playing host to the Lake Turkana Cultural Festival, being held between the 29th – 31st of May this year.
The festival is jam-packed with some incredible cultural activities that will give visitors and guests an insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region. This year’s event is co-organized by the County Government of Marsabit, Local Community Festival Committee, Kenya Tourism Board, National Museums of Kenya and Kenya Wildlife Service. The festival has been running for the past eight years and is set to be one of the best events on the circuit this year.
The festival gives the communities in Marsabit an opportunity to share their traditional knowledge, beliefs and values with the rest of Kenya, as well as international visitors. This annual event provides an opportunity to travel to explore Northern Kenya and enjoy a myriad of colorful cultures while discovering the numerous natural treasures of the region.
Marsabit county and the rest of the organisers have set a great program of activities that will allow guests to visit cultural shrines, ceremonies and the wealth of natural museums in the region. Please find a detailed plan below. You will definitely not want to miss out.
